About PDF Password Protector

PDF password protection creates an encrypted copy of your document using standard PDF encryption algorithms. The protected PDF requires the password to open, preventing unauthorized access to sensitive information.

Encryption happens entirely in your browser using PDF.js and crypto libraries. The original and protected PDFs remain on your device, no sensitive documents or passwords are transmitted to servers.

Critical warning: If you forget the password, the encrypted PDF cannot be recovered. Store passwords securely. Password protection secures copies but doesn't prevent screenshots or photos of open documents.

Frequently asked questions

PDF uses AES encryption (128 or 256-bit depending on implementation). Security depends on password strength. Use long, complex passwords. Weak passwords can be cracked with brute-force tools.

No. PDF encryption is designed to be unrecoverable without the password. There's no password reset or recovery. Always store passwords securely before protecting files.

You can set permission restrictions (copy, print, edit), but these are advisory. Anyone with the open password can potentially bypass permission restrictions with specialized tools. Use password protection for access control, not copy protection.
